The Arfit 3 Phase Rehabilitation Program

The Arfit Rehabilitation Program is a structured, three-phase approach designed to help your dog recover safely, rebuild strength, and stay well long-term — guided by objective testing, not guesswork.

We don’t progress dogs based on time alone. We progress them based on measurable improvement in pain, discomfort, movement, strength, and function.

That’s what makes our program safer, more predictable, and more effective.

Every dog is evaluated using objective measures at:

• Visit 1 (Baseline)
• 3 weeks
• 6 weeks
• 9 weeks

How It Works

We track:
• Pain and discomfort
• Lameness and gait quality
• Mobility and range of motion
• Strength and symmetry
• Functional movement (sit-to-stand, walking, transitions, etc.)

These measures guide when and how your dog progresses — and allow us to adjust care early if progress slows.

You’ll always know:
• Where your dog started
• How they’re progressing
• What the next step is, and why

The Three Phases

Phase 1 — Intensive Recovery

Goal: Reduce pain and discomfort, restore mobility, and allow tissues to heal.

This phase focuses on calming inflammation, restoring comfortable movement, and resolving protective or compensatory patterns.

Progression criteria:

Dogs move to Phase 2 when pain, discomfort, and mobility limitations are reduced to mild or minimal levels.

Phase 2 — Return to Strength & Performance

Goal: Rebuild strength, symmetry, balance, and endurance.

Once the body is moving comfortably, we focus on restoring capacity — so your dog can safely return to normal activity, play, work, or sport.

Progression criteria:

Dogs move to Phase 3 when they demonstrate near-normal strength, balance, and functional movement without flare-ups or compensation.

Phase 3 — Longevity & Injury Prevention

Goal: Maintain progress, prevent reinjury, and support long-term joint and muscle health.

This phase protects the gains your dog has made and helps identify small changes early — before they become painful or limiting.

Frequency is individualized based on age, activity level, and history.

Why This Works

This structure:

  • Prevents stopping too early
  • Prevents progressing too fast
  • Reduces reinjury risk
  • Creates clearer outcomes
  • Makes recovery safer and more predictable

Instead of guessing when your dog is “ready,” we measure readiness.

That’s the Arfit difference.
